2U rack server supply

The 2U dual-socket server is the configuration sweet spot of the rack range: room for two processors, deep memory, a real drive backplane and expansion slots, in two rack units. This page gathers the 2U models we supply across four brand lines.

Models and lines we supply

Why 2U wins most comparisons

Against 1U, the 2U chassis buys memory slots, drive bays and PCIe slots — the three things that decide how long a host stays useful. Against 4U, it keeps density reasonable for general compute. The result is that 2U is where virtualisation hosts, database servers and general cloud nodes concentrate, across every brand line we supply.

Within the class, the split is platform: Intel Xeon Scalable lines (PowerEdge R7xx, ProLiant DL380, ThinkSystem SR) and AMD EPYC lines (PowerEdge R7xx15/R7xx25, ProLiant DL385, ThinkSystem SR655 and SR675 class machines). Both are quoted from this page's model list.

Comparing across brands

Cross-brand comparison is legitimate buying work: the same dual-socket brief priced in two lines often differs in the fitted options rather than the headline model. Send one target configuration and ask for it in two lines; the quotes come back in the same format so the difference is visible.

Questions buyers ask

Is 2U always better than 1U?

No — for pure scale-out compute, 1U density wins. The comparison page on this site works through the trade-off in detail.

Can 2U servers hold GPUs?

Several 2U models in the range take accelerator cards; the GPU server page organises the multi-GPU end of the range.
