Blade server supply

Blade systems pack compute into a shared enclosure: power, cooling, networking and management are provided by the chassis, and each blade is a self-contained server that slides into it. The blade line we supply is built around the Lenovo ThinkSystem SN550 half-height blade.

Where blades earn their chassis

Blades make sense when node count is high and the nodes are alike: virtualisation farms, VDI hosts and scale-out services where a shared backplane cuts cabling and every slot runs the same image. The enclosure concentrates power delivery and cooling, so per-node overheads fall as the chassis fills.

They make less sense for a handful of mixed servers. Below a full enclosure, rack servers give the same compute with simpler sparing, which is why we ask about node count and growth before quoting a blade configuration.

What to specify

Enclosure population now and at full build, the per-blade processor and memory target, and the fabric the chassis must speak to. We quote the enclosure and blades as one configuration.

Questions buyers ask

What does half-height mean?

A half-height blade occupies half the vertical slot space of the enclosure bay design, so more blades fit per chassis. The SN550 is a half-height module.

Can blades and rack servers be quoted together?

Yes. Mixed estates are common; send both lists and they are quoted as one order.
