About this model
The ProLiant DL365 Gen11 is the 1U dual-socket model in our HPE shop range: two processors in one rack unit, the density shape of the DL line. Where the DL380 spends 2U on depth, the DL365 spends 1U on count — and for scale-out tiers, count is the metric.
Configuration choices
Dual-socket 1U is a deliberate compromise: real host processors, fleet density, shallow configuration. The DL365 suits the tiers that stay shallow — application front ends, container nodes, VDI brokers, the stateless layer of an HPE estate — and it keeps those tiers inside the same iLO management standard as the 2U hosts.
The Gen10 Plus also appearing in the listings is useful for estates mid-transition: both generations are quotable here, and a two-generation quote prices the step.
Where it fits
Buyers put this model to work in three recurring patterns:
- Scale-out tiers inside HPE-standardised estates.
- Container and application node pools.
- Density-first expansions where rack units are priced.
In service
The DL365's working life is spent in tiers where nodes are numerous and interchangeable, and its operations follow the density pattern: golden images, automated enrolment, swap-don't-repair. Its iLO standardisation with the estate's 2U hosts is the detail that makes the pattern cheap — one management plane across both heights, one set of credentials and habits from the 1U rows to the DL380 core.
Mixed-generation operation is this model's other reality: with Gen10 Plus machines in the same listings, estates often run both generations in one tier during a transition. That is a sound pattern when it is deliberate — images tested on both, spares held for both — and the quote stage is where the transition plan belongs, so the generations arrive in the order the plan assumes.
The specification, in one place
The published figures for the DL365 Gen11 are the ones carried on this page: form factor: 1U rack server; sockets: 2P (dual-socket); line history: DL365 Gen10 Plus also appears in the listings. Those figures are the anchor of the supply offer — they are what the configuration starts from, and every line beyond them (processor alternatives, memory populations, drive models and counts, power and rail options) is settled in writing on the quote rather than assumed from the badge.
Buyers comparing this model should hold the comparison to the same standard: configuration against configuration, line by line. In the HPE range this model is quoted alongside its ProLiant siblings in the same format, so a two-model comparison on one brief is always available. Ask for serial numbers before shipment, and keep the final written configuration with the asset record — it is the document the machine's whole service life will be checked against.
Questions buyers ask
1U dual-socket or the 2U DL380?
If the node needs memory depth, drives or expansion, it is a DL380. If it needs to exist forty times, it is the DL365. The 1U vs 2U comparison page works the general case.
Can Gen10 Plus and Gen11 be quoted together?
Yes — mixed-generation estate quotes are routine here.
